For the most authentic gelato you’ll find outside of Rome, Pitango Gelato in Reston Town Center is the answer. The owner, Noah Dan, grew up in the Northern Italian seafaring city of Trieste where he consumed gelato on the daily. He returned to the U.S. and inspired by his childhood, he opened the first Pitango Gelato location in 2007 which has since grown to six storefronts in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
What separates them from the rest is the quality ingredients and freshness. Through a partnership with Spring Wood Organic Farm in Pennsylvania, they combine the fresh milk, eggs, and fruit for each batch of gelato and sorbet on-site at the farm. It’s then transported to each shop where it’s churned on-site for a product that truly doesn’t taste like anything you’ve had from other shops, as due to the process they’re able to avoid preservatives and artificial add-ins that would otherwise be required.
Their flavors are varied and mix traditional with unique. Gelato options range from chocolate hazelnut crafted with the signature Italian Bacio chocolates to black sesame inspired by Asian flavors. The sorbet options are just as diverse with everything from tart granny smith to sweet passion fruit.
Right now, they’re serving limited hours from Friday to Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with contactless pickup. Buon appetito! << Back To Blogs
